Fear of God was started by Jerry Lorenzo, an American designer from Los Angeles. He didn’t come from fashion school or a traditional luxury background. Instead, he was involved in LA street culture, music circles, and event promotion before entering fashion. Around 2011–2013, he began making clothes because he couldn’t find pieces that matched his personal style—something between streetwear, vintage sportswear, and luxury minimalism. Early pieces like oversized T-shirts and layered silhouettes quickly got attention because they looked different from typical streetwear at the time. The brand really broke out when celebrities and stylists started wearing it, including people connected to Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and other major artists. That exposure turned Fear of God into a cult label rather than just a small independent brand.
